How to Dry Out Walls In New York And New Jersey After Water Damage

Drying the walls after water damage is not an easy job. Usually people suggest natural ventilation to dry the wet wall. But it is really time consuming and at times really late to action against the rapid mold growth too. To overcome this situation, it is necessary for us to think of some alternatives.

  • Start removing the water from the attics. If the insulation is wet, carefully remove it totally and dispose it off immediately.

  • Check whether in the walls if sheetrock is used or plaster. If the plaster is used then you need to check whether the damage is been caused by the clean or dirty drain water. If it's been affected by clean water then its durability depends on factors like plaster mix, type of lath used and degree of water saturation. If wooden lath is used then it may expand and cause damage to plaster. It can be temporarily be treated by using 2x4s. Drain water has cavities that can result in more problems. You need to be really careful in treating them. It is wiser to take the help of water damage restoration personnel.

If the water has gone into the sheet rock and has been there for two hours then easily it be repaired. If it has been for more than two hours then it is wiser to replace it.

  • Remove all the water that is trapped within the walls of your home. It is good to take off the baseboard and using knife check whether the water is dripping or not. If it is then cut the wall or drill a hole, which allows drainage of water freely.
